El Corte Inglés introduces Alipay+ to improve Asian tourists’ shopping experience

  • El Corte Inglés continues to innovate and expand its range of services aimed at improving Asian visitors’ shopping experience by making Alipay+ available at all its centres. This global solution for cross-border digital payments and marketing makes it possible to accept the most popular Asian e-wallets.
  • By introducing Alipay+ as one of its payment methods, El Corte Inglés will be able to facilitate payment for over 1.5 billion Asian users through their QR code-based e-wallets. Asian visitors will also be able to take advantage of loyalty programmes, discounts and other promotions.

El Corte Inglés, Europe’s largest department store chain, has introduced Alipay+, a mobile platform for cross-border payments and marketing, in order to accept the 10 most popular Asian e-wallets at all its centres in Spain.

By implementing Alipay+, El Corte Inglés reaffirms its capacity for innovation and its dedication to the consumer, Asian tourists, in this case. This way, when they visit our country, they’ll be able to pay with their usual e-wallets using QR technology at any El Corte Inglés establishment. In addition, these Asian visitors will also be able to take advantage of Alipay+ promotions and loyalty programmes for different brands.

There are currently more than 1.5 billion users on the Alipay+ solution mobile payment and marketing apps, including: Alipay (China), Alipay HK (Hong Kong), Kakao Pay (South Korea), TrueMoney (Thailand), GCash (Philippines), DANA (Indonesia), Touch'n Go eWallet (Malaysia), OCBC Digital (Singapore), etc.

For Alba Ruiz, Business Development Director for Europe at Alipay+, "It's very important to offer Asian tourists a shopping experience that caters to their needs. That's why we're very pleased that El Corte Inglés, which already lets Chinese tourists pay using Alipay, has introduced Alipay+ to offer the same opportunity to visitors from other Asian countries. This way, not only will they be able to use their usual and trusted payment method, but they’ll also be able to take advantage of associated promotions. This is the key to attracting Asian tourists and boosting sales.”  She added that “it's also worth commending that, through a single integration process, El Corte Ingles’ centres can now access all digital payment methods supported by Alipay+, both already existing ones and those incorporated later on. We're delighted to continue our collaboration with BBVA, the technological and banking partner in this project.”
