Visa, Master Card and American Express have developed a system for making secure online purchases. The Secure E-Commerce system means the card issuer (bank or savings bank) has to identify the card holder before authorising the online payment.
El Corte Inglés has subscribed to this security protocol. When you select the product you wish to purchase and enter your card number, a window pops up from your card issuer, requesting your identification details and displaying one of the following icons:
This security system protects your card details and password from the moment they are entered.
Once identification is complete, the Issuer informs El Corte Inglés that the purchase is being made by the card holder, meaning the process can be completed. If identification is incorrect, the Issuer informs El Corte Inglés so it can take the appropriate action required.
This window is not controlled by El Corte Inglés, and the Issuer bears sole responsibility for any problem that may arise when using it. You must contact your banking institution if any such problems occur.

PSD2 is the new European directive that regulates payment services and electronic payment transactions. It was adopted into Spanish legislation by Spanish Royal Decree-Law 19/2018. At El Corte Inglés, it affects purchases made with Bank Cards, Bizum or PayPal.
One of the primary objectives of PSD2 is to improve online security and strengthen fraud protection in online bank transactions.
One of the main security measures from this directive is the mandatory use of Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) in all e-commerce purchases starting 01 January 2021, as long as none of the exemptions provided for in the regulation apply. SCA now requires that two forms of authentication are provided for purchases, with several options to choose from: something that the user knows (for example, a password), something they possess (for example, a mobile phone) or something unique to them (for example, theirfinger print or face). Only providing the first form of authentication will no longer be enough; users will now need to provide two forms (double authentication or SCA).
The secure purchasing process will depend on the issuing bank and may require you to enter the code you receive via SMS + a second form, or validation through your bank's App. Please check how this process will work with your bank so you will be prepared for upcoming purchases.
For online Supermarket purchases, given that the total amount for your order can vary and may be higher due to products that are priced by weight (meat, fruit, etc.) or substitutions when products are out of stock, you can request authorisation for an amount greater than your order total; this authorisation will never be charged to your account. Once we have prepared your order, you will be charged the final amount that matches the products to be delivered.
PSD2 does not affect purchases made with an El Corte Inglés Card, Credit Line, Gift Voucher, or COD method, so the purchase process will remain unchanged.
You can request an El Corte Inglés Card online here.
In order to pay with Bizum, you must register for Bizum on the app of the bank where you want to associate your payments. You will receive a 4-digit PIN, which you will need for all your e-commerce purchases.
Bizum will be accepted on the ECI Travel and El Corte Inglés Store websites in Spain, and also at the Ticket Office. Bizum payments will not be accepted at the Supermarket.
