Ámbito Cultural de El Corte Inglés and the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza will celebrate World Poetry Day on 21 March with a recital by 21 poets in several rooms of the art gallery's permanent collections. The event will begin at 12 noon with a speech by the singer-songwriter and poet Christina Rosenvinge. The poets, both Spanish and Latin American, will then take a tour of the different areas of the museum. The event will end with a reading by the poet Pilar González España.
Poets and singer-songwriters will present their creations to museum visitors in rooms from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. They will do so among expressionist landscapes, cubist paintings, European inter-war and American post-war works. The activity is included in the museum's general admission ticket.
The 21 participating poets are: Alfonso Armada, Ana Rossetti (King Juan Carlos I International Poetry Prize), Annët Batlles (National Living Poetry Prize), Bernard Engel (National Emerging Poetry Prize), Celia BSoul, Constantino Molina (Miguel Hernández National Youth Poetry Prize), David Silvestre, Gonzalo Hormigo, Hipólito García Fernández “Bolo”, Karim Hauser, Luis María Pérez, Marta Vicente Antolín (National Living Poetry Prize), Martín Rodríguez Gaona, Miguel Ángel Vázquez, Miguel Sánchez Santamaría (National Living Poetry Prize), Mila Valcárcel, Miryam Quiñones, Rafael Morales Barba, Rafael Soler (Europa in Versi e in Prosa Prize), Rosana Acquaroni (Book of the Year Prize from the Madrid Booksellers Guild) and Vanesa Pérez-Sauquillo.
On the same day at 7.30 pm, in the Ámbito Cultural hall of El Corte Inglés in Callao (Madrid), there will be a tribute to music and poetry, led by Gonzalo Escarpa, poet and director of La Piscifactoría Laboratorio de Creación and coordinator of #LdeLírica, Ámbito Cultural's poetry cycle. This event will feature the singer-songwriter Carlos Ávila and the guitarist Ángel López, the poets Marta Vicente Antolín and Annët Batlles and the singer Tulsa, winner of the National Prize for Contemporary Music 2024. And to round off World Poetry Day, the singer-songwriter and guitarist Christina Rosenvinge will close the day in the Ámbito Cultural hall of El Corte Inglés.
This is the third consecutive year that Ámbito Cultural de El Corte Inglés has celebrated World Poetry Day by combining art and verse. In 2023, it did so in the galleries of the Museo del Prado and in 2024, in the spaces of the Museo Sorolla.
All events at the Ámbito Cultural de El Corte Inglés in Callao will be open to the public until full capacity is reached. It will also be broadcast in streaming and on the social media accounts of Ámbito Cultural de El Corte Inglés.
