El Corte Inglés becomes official sponsor of San Diego Comic-Con Malaga

El Corte Inglés is sponsoring San Diego Comic-Con Málaga, the major global comic convention, which, for the first time, is being held outside the United States.
The event, which will be held next week from 25 to 28 September at the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos in Malaga, will host more than 100,000 entertainment and popular culture enthusiasts in around 80,000m2.
The convention offers more than 300 hours of content packed with activities and surprises, with opening hours from 10:00 to 22:00. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Luke Evans (Gaston in “Beauty and the Beast” and Bard in “The Hobbit”) and Pedro Alonso (Berlin in “Money Heist”) are some of the confirmed stars who will take part in this first edition.

El Corte Inglés is sponsoring San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) Malaga, the first time this event will be held outside the United States. From 25 to 28 September, the city's Palacio de Ferias y Congresos will become the stage where more than 100,000 entertainment and popular culture fans will gather to enjoy more than 300 hours of content.

Established in 1970, SDCC is one of the world's largest comic book conventions, as well as an international benchmark of entertainment and popular arts. In addition to having become a meeting place for fans, SDCC's main objective is to promote the contribution of comics to art and culture. The occasion, which is coming to Europe for the first time, has been held for more than 50 years, bringing together thousands of special guests and offering lectures, presentations and even exclusive premieres of various audiovisual products.

This year, SDCC Malaga has already confirmed the attendance of several stars, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, star of Terminator, Predator and Total Recall and guest of honour; Luke Evans, Hollywood star known for The Hobbit and the live-action Beauty and the Beast; and Pedro Alonso, who plays the iconic Berlin in Money Heist.

The wide range of activities and experiences at SDCC Malaga, designed for fans of different disciplines, covers areas such as literature, illustration, the world of video games, film, animation and special effects, among others. The calendar is now available and features experiences such as drawing workshops, round tables, tournaments and competitions for various games and video games, talks with authors and illustrators, and K-Pop dance and cosplay competitions. In addition, the auditoriums and halls will host presentations, panels and conferences.

Mario Kart World and board game competitions will open the calendar of activities on Thursday. Most of these games can be found at El Corte Inglés both in store, and on the website and app. On the same day, NBC Universal will present the first season of Revival, the audio-visual adaptation of the comic by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton.

The popularity of comics and graphic novels today is a reflection of the potential of illustrations to drive stories. According to industry figures, the global graphic novel market is worth more than 13 billion euros and is expected to continue to grow over the next few years.

In this sense, SDCC Malaga has various activities related to the design and development of these genres. They include: On Thursday, Natacha Bustos will explain how a comic is made for Marvel; on Friday, Salvador Navarro will give workshops on drawing superheroes; on Saturday, Marvel authors and illustrators will share their experience working to develop this universe; and on Sunday, Núria Ibáñez and Jordi Canyissà will talk and present an immersive exhibition on the genius of Ibáñez.

In this context, El Corte Inglés offers readers and fans a wide variety of works by the most acclaimed authors and illustrators, critically acclaimed comics and new works by promising young and emerging artists. The company has kicked off Comic Fortnight where, until 28 September, customers will be able to discover the top works in categories such as Marvel, DC, Children's, Young Adult, Indie, and Graphic Novels, and benefit from a 5% discount on their purchases. Thus, in El Corte Inglés you will be able to find titles by Frank Miller such as Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again and 300. Also From Hell and other works by Alan Moore, as well as books to delve into the universe of the author and his characters, such as Alan Moore: La autopsia del Héroe by Juan Vargas, or Alan Moore: Biographicby Gary Spencer. And, for those in search of Spanish talent, Paco Roca is always a good choice with Arrugas or El abismo del olvido. What's more, on the 27th, the Spanish author will take part in a talk on the film adaptation of graphic novels at SDCC Malaga.

Among the other activities scheduled for Saturday, authors and publishers of the board game brands Devir (Secret Code, Catan o Sushi Go!), Llama Dice and Erie Idol Games will discuss the elements needed to design the perfect game. Little ones will also be able to enjoy the premiere of the first two episodes of the second season of Ninja Turtles, as well as an exclusive meet & greet afterwards. And on Sunday, to round off the experience, Arnold Schwarzenegger will give a masterclass on Total Recall.
